commissioning PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS
Process
The first step to commissioning an artwork is to get a good idea of what you would like (size and content) and send me an email. I can help you with any photos you would like to take or use. From there we will discuss the design and I may make several pencil sketches or digital mockups. When the design has been confirmed, we can discuss pricing as the pricing listed is approximate and will depend on the detail, materials and time required.
When a price has been settled, I will require half of the payment up front before I can begin work. I will send you an invoice which may be paid via PayPal, mailed certified cheque etc.
Over the course of this work I will send progress photos so that I can verify with you that there are no problems or adjustments that need to be made. My first priority is that you get a beautiful work of art that you are completely satisfied with. However, please note that any unreasonably drastic changes will incur an additional charge or require the commission of another work.
When the work is finalized we will discuss delivery arrangements. The second invoice will be sent and the second half of the payment must be received prior to delivery or upon delivery if I am delivering it personally or you are picking it up.

Size
Works can be commissioned in any dimension (height or width), what is listed on the pricing page is only for an idea of approximate cost. Larger paintings are much cheaper per square inch as I actually prefer to work with large sizes.
Material
For sketches, I work in pencil, charcoal, conté (charcoal coloured brown white or grey). It can be done on white or coloured paper (purchased from a professional art supplier).
For paintings, I work in acrylic or oil or both. Oil paint is more expensive and results in higher quality paintings but I do not charge additionally for it. Oil paintings set within a reasonable amount of time but do not fully dry for six months and therefore must be handled a little more carefully.
All work will be sprayed with a fixative before delivery to ensure safety and long life. That said, art should not be stored in damp areas such as (humid basements or bathrooms with showers) or areas exposed to the weather.

Photo references
Especially for portraits, I rely heavily on photo reference for realism and accuracy. The better the photo references you supply, the easier it is for me to produce an accurate likeness. I can give advice for taking good pictures but when this is not possible, as in the case of a deceased or distant family member I will make do as I can.

NOTE ABOUT COPYRIGHT: Most of my paintings which use material protected by Intellectual Property Laws such as characters owned by Marvel or DC were made for my personal use and as gifts and are displayed only for portfolio purposes as a showcase of my abilities. Copyright owners do not permit commercial use of their intellectual property.
However, that said, I CAN sell portraits integrating popular culture such as my series of portraits where the subjects are depicted wearing superhero outfits such as a Spider-man sweater ("I am Spider-man") or an Ironman dress ("I am Ironman) as they are appropriately transformative.
If you are uncertain what I can and cannot sell, we can discuss your ideas via email or phone.
